We’ve shown you our top selling engagement rings from 2017, now let’s put on our fortune-teller hats and discuss our engagement ring trend predictions for 2018!

3. Bezel Settings

We see this setting style really taking off in 2018! A bezel setting is a band or rim of metal the sets the diamond in place by securing the diamond’s girdle. This setting offers a clean, minimalist look and doesn’t distract from the beauty of your diamond like prongs sometimes can.  What’s more, bezel settings offer the following bennies:

  • Since a bezel setting surrounds the girdle of the diamond, a white gold bezel can make a diamond look larger!
  • Bezel settings can offer extra protection against accidental bangs and bumps. This makes this setting a good choice for active lifestyles.

While this A.JAFFE style does use prongs, you’ll notice how the clean line of the added bezel gives the illusion of a larger diamond! A.JAFFE “Metropolitan” 14k White Gold Diamond Engagement Ring Setting (ZJAFF00220) – $2,940

Bremer Jewelry “Boheme” 18k White Gold Diamond Engagement Ring (BSMC10363) – $5,999

The Deco Chic HOF Bezel Engagement Ring creates a unique and subtle style with a single solitatire perfectly cut diamond with an under-gallery of diamonds. Available by special order.

2. Fancy Cut Diamonds

“Fancy” diamond cuts include every shape that is not a round cut. Round cut diamonds have always dominated the market; more than 70% of diamonds sold are round (soure: www.beyond4cs.com). We predict that, in her quest to achieve a more custom, unique look, the modern bride will gravitate toward alternate diamond shapes in 2018.

The oval is perfect for someone who likes the classic lines of a round diamond, but wants something a little more unique!

3. Geometric or Art Deco-Inspired Designs

“Art Deco, also called style moderne, was a movement in the decorative arts and architecture that originated in the 1920s and developed into a major style in western Europe and the United States during the 1930s. Its name was derived from the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes, held in Paris in 1925, where the style was first exhibited. The distinguishing features of the style are simple, clean shapes, often with a “streamlined” look; ornament that is geometric or stylized from representational forms; and unusually varied, often expensive materials…” Source: www.britannica.com

We’ll be heading back into the “Roaring 20’s” in just a couple of years so we predict a resurgence in everything Art Deco! Deco-inpsired jewelry is particularly breathtaking, as it’s clean, minimalist lines really let the metal luster and gemstone brilliance shine through. When it comes to engagement rings, we’re going to see more angles in setting designs and the greater use of fancy cut diamond shapes (see #2)! While platinum and white gold were used heavily in the original Art Deco jewelry styles of the 20’s and 30’s, we predict the modern bride will update the designs with her own metal color preference!

4. East-West Set Diamonds

Here is yet another way for the non-traditional bride to stand out in a sea of round diamonds and white dresses: the East-West Engagement Ring! Perfect for the gal looking to set the world on it’s ear 😉 With this type of ring, the diamond is placed horizontally on the band, in comparison to a classic setting which features a vertically placed stone. Any shape stone can used in an East-West ring. Elongated shapes like oval, marquise, and emerald lend themselves quite nicely to this look.

Catherine’s Zeta Jones’ engagement ring is 10 carat east-west set marquise. It also happens to be a 1920s antique ring designed by Fred Leighton (see trend #3!)

A.JAFFE “Classics” 14k White Gold Diamond Engagement Ring Setting (ZGAFF00313) – $1,900

Try adding bands with interesting shapes to your East-West ring for an even more unique look!

5. Responsibly Sourced Diamonds

We are fully immersed in an age of unprecedented information and technology. Brides today want to make best use of these resources to ensure the symbol of their forever-love was responsibly and lovingly sourced. We believe 2018 will see a surge in requests for certified responsibly sourced diamonds like Forevermark®.  Forevermark’s parent company (The De Beers Group) goes to great lengths to ensure that the communities and environments surrounding their mines are not only preserved, but improved by the industry.

In its efforts to help conserve a vital, shared resource, The De Beers Group of Companies collaborates on local projects, such as World Wildlife Foundation South Africa’s wetland restoration project in the Sand River basin, Limpopo.

Each Forevermark diamond is uniquely inscribed with its own identification number promising that the diamond is beautiful, rare, and responsibly sourced.
